Atar Gull

Script by - Art by

Adapted from the novel by Eugène Sue, Atar Gull is a pitiless study of slavery, of an unmatched darkness and cynicism. Atar Gull, the son of a king, is kidnapped from his people at an early age to become a slave. Carted from one ship to another like a piece of merchandise, he winds up in Jamaica in the service of a plantation owner. His submissive, eager-to-please manner soon wins him the owner’s confidence, which he will use to take his revenge and ruthlessly destroy the entire family. The album dissects the mechanisms of slavery. But it also presents the slaves, not as innocents or ‘noble savages’, but as humans – men – from whom their captors have deliberately excised a piece of humanity.
